A Universal International Freephone Number (UIFN) is a unique global solution that allows your business to use a single, consistent phone number across multiple participating countries. Instead of managing dozens of different toll-free numbers, your customers in London, Tokyo, and Paris can all reach you by dialing the same 8-digit string: +800 XXXX XXXX.
Key Benefits of UIFN
Global Branding: Perfect for printing on product packaging, global business cards, and international marketing campaigns.
Customer Simplicity: Your customers only need to remember one number, regardless of where they are located.
Scalability: You can add new countries to your existing UIFN as your business expands without changing your contact details.
How it Works
Unlike standard International Toll-Free (ITFS) numbers, which are country-specific, a UIFN is registered with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The Format: All UIFNs follow a fixed format:
(International Prefix) + 800 + 8-digit number.Registration: To secure a UIFN, the number must be registered in a minimum of two countries.
Routing: Calls are routed via AVOXI to your centralized office, SIP trunk, or mobile device.
Technical Requirements & Limitations
While UIFN is a powerful branding tool, there are specific regulatory and technical factors to consider:
Setup Fees: There is a one-time registration fee required by the ITU for the initial number reservation, plus a per-country activation fee.
Lead Times: Due to the international registration process, activation typically takes 10–15 business days.
Mobile Accessibility: While highly reliable, access to +800 numbers from mobile phones or payphones can vary by local carrier in certain countries.
Dialing Prefixes: Callers must dial their country’s specific International Access Code (e.g., 011 in the US, 00 in the UK) before the 800 number.
